Vaught said they were also looking to get money from the federal government before using their own money to build I-73. After last week’s council meeting, council chairman Johnny Gardner said the county cannot invest a dime in I-73 unless the state and federal governments commit all of them.
“We need to get together with the municipalities and figure out what their level of participation will be and what our level of participation will be,” Vaught said.
Vaught said some staff were meeting with surrounding municipalities on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
The committee also passed a resolution for Horry County Fire Rescue to use funds from the 2022 budget to staff the new Longs Fire Station.
