HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The expansion of Highway 90 and funds for the construction of I-73 were discussed and voted on at the Horry County Administrative Committee meeting on Tuesday.

A resolution passed to use money from Ride 2 funds for the expansion of Highway 90, which council member Johnny Vaught said has been a long time coming.

Vaught said they were also looking to get money from the federal government before using their own money to build I-73. On Tuesday, the committee postponed a resolution to use more than $ 4 million for the Horry County portion of I-73. After last week’s council meeting, council chairman Johnny Gardner said the county cannot invest a dime in I-73 unless the state and federal governments commit all of them.

“We need to get together with the municipalities and figure out what their level of participation will be and what our level of participation will be,” Vaught said.

Vaught said some staff were meeting with surrounding municipalities on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

The committee also passed a resolution for Horry County Fire Rescue to use funds from the 2022 budget to staff the new Longs Fire Station.
