Reverend Francis Mawn retires in Lawrence

Parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence honored Reverend Francis Mawn, pastor of the church for the past 15 years, with a retreat feast in December. He was pastor of St. James Parish in Haverhill for nine years before being transferred to Corpus Christi.

On February 27, a four-alarm fire broke out in the parish rectory while Mawn was at home.

He came out unharmed without injury. The firefighters were able to save the church, which suffered only smoke and water damage, but the presbytery was an almost total loss. After more than 100 years as a neighborhood and community parish, Corpus Christi also retired this month and became the Sanctuary of the Holy Rosary supported by the Franciscans of the Primitive Observance.
