Wicklow’s Dementia Support

Volunteers are required for the Wicklow Dementia Support Wednesday activity group which meets in the town of Wicklow every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to support participants taking part in activities, share a cup of tea and chat.

Calary art exhibition

As the restrictions are gradually lifted, we hope to restart events at Calary Church in October with an art exhibit and a Harvest Festival weekend.

Organizers are of course aware that plans may change in accordance with government guidelines regarding Covid-19 – but they need to plan.

The exhibit will be held the weekend of October 8, 9 and 10 in conjunction with a classical guitar recital and Redmond O’Toole CD launch on Friday evening and a plant and country sale on Saturday. The harvest service will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 10.

Yoga with Anne-Marie

While the regular Thursday class is fully booked right now, Anne Marie is offering another class starting Tuesday, October 5, at Roundwood Parish Hall, 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The course covers: physical stretching (according to your own abilities) pranayama (breathing work) deep relaxation, meditation and mantra. It is important to contact Anne Marie in advance as classes are still restricted by Covid rules. For more details, call or text 086 8367578.

Personal alarms

Roundwood and the District Community Council are registered to administer the Elderly Alert Program, which provides grants to the elderly for the provision of personal alarms.

The personal alarm gives reassurance to allow an independent life, knowing that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbor in an emergency.

Returning this year due to popular demand, Roundwood Beekeepers Association is running a FIBKA Beginner’s Course starting in October.

This is an eight week course presented by Wille O’Byrne. Anyone interested, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, phone number and email address.

Ivy day

The Rathdrum Development Association (RDA) has decided to hold Charles Stewart Parnell’s annual Ivy Day commemoration on Sunday, October 3 at 1 p.m. at Parnell Memorial Park.


As Covid restrictions ease, the Rathdrum Development Association is reviewing the situation with regards to indoor bingo and it is hoped that normal bingo will resume in the RDA room at some point in October.

More information is awaited on how to organize bingo safely. Bingo users will be kept informed.

Active retirement

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement Group is always welcoming new members to join the group.

Community forum

The next meeting of the Newtownmountkennedy Forum will be held on Thursday, October 7 at the Newtownmountkennedy Community Center at 7:30 p.m.


ALONE, the association that supports the elderly, is setting up a national helpline and additional support for the elderly who have concerns or encounter difficulties related to Covid-19.

Elevation dance school

Elevation School of Dance has a brand new acro and aerial arts program and “TRIPLE AS” (“Acro and Aerial Artists Squad”).

It combines the tumbling, balance and flexibility skills of ACRO with the exciting skills learned on the aerial hoop and you have the new personalized program specific to ESPA students.

Students who register for this course will also have the opportunity to take the Complementary AcroDance course and become members of our “TRIPLE A SQUAD”, providing opportunities to compete and perform as an Acro team.

Clothing bank

Donate your unwanted clothes to the Brockagh Resource Center Clothing Bank, located at the back of the building.

All profits are intended for the maintenance of the center. You can also empty your glass and cans at other recycling banks.

wedding anniversary masses

Are you celebrating your 65th, 60th, 55th, 50th, 40th or 25th wedding anniversary this year?

The annual Wedding Anniversary Mass will be held on Friday October 8 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in the town of Wicklow.

Invitations will be sent to married couples at St Patrick’s Church in Wicklow and St Joseph’s Church in Rathnew.

The parish would like to invite all couples and their families who have not married here, but are celebrating one of these birthdays, to join in on the occasion.

If you wish to attend in the evening, please complete the September 19 newsletter slip, available at https://www.wicklowparish.ie/parish-news/newsletters/, and leave it in the sacristy or parish office as soon as possible as possible.

After Mass there will be a presentation of commemorative certificates and refreshments will be served at the De La Salle Parish Center.

Annamoe Center

The Annamoe Center tennis court is open again. If anyone has any questions or would like to make a reservation, please contact Christine on 086 805 7431.

Children’s tennis training takes place at the Annamoe Center every Saturday morning. Anyone interested in participating on Saturday morning can visit the website www.jsta.ie.

Walking group

Monday mornings every week at 10 a.m., join the Laragh Walking Group at the Brockagh Resource Center for a walk in the Glendalough area for approximately an hour.

Glenealy Computer Center

Registration is now taking place at the Glenealy IT Center for the following part-time certified courses – ECDL, Manual and Computerized Accounting and Payroll, Photoshop, Advanced Word and Excel.

Film Production Course – Interested in a Career in Film and Creative Media? Do you want to take advantage of job opportunities in the cinema sector? A new program has been launched.

This part-time BTEC International Diploma course is an interactive and creative, project-based training program with an emphasis on hands-on ‘hands-on’ skills.

It covers cinematography, lighting, audio production, film production and factual production. Register now if you are interested as places are limited.

Closure of Colley Row

Wicklow County Council plans to temporarily close the public road known as Colley Row in the town of Wicklow for a three-day period in October.

The temporary closure will take place from Monday, October 11 to Wednesday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Detour routes will be in place and from Glenside Road motorists should continue straight ahead and take a left onto Summerhill, then a left onto the Crinion Park roundabout.

From Crinion Park, go straight to the roundabout onto Summerhill, then turn right at the intersection with Glenside Road.

The road closure is necessary for the domestic gas connection.

Mother and baby groups

The Brockagh Resource Center has provided space for a group of mothers, babies and toddlers for the past few years now.

If you are interested in leading this group, contact [email protected] as funds are now available.

Funding requests
under this scheme should only be carried out by non-profit groups.
